APU has positioned itself at the forefront of accounting education through its future-focused accounting and finance programmes enhanced with cutting-edge technologies.
In today’s digital-first economy, the accounting profession is undergoing a transformative shift.
No longer confined to ledgers and spreadsheets, accountants are now expected to possess competencies in digital skills of data analytics, automation, and financial technology.
Recognising this, the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) is redefining traditional learning pathways through its future-focused accounting and finance programmes.
Fusing accounting and technology
APU stands out for its seamless integration of Accounting Technology (AccTech) across every layer of its Accounting and Finance programmes. This includes:
> Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Honours)
- with a specialism in Forensic Accounting
- with a specialism in Forex and Investments
- with a specialism in Accounting Technology
These programmes are meticulously designed to develop forward-thinking professionals who are well-grounded in core accounting principles, auditing standards, and tax regulations.
At the same time, students gain hands-on experience with industry-relevant tools, including cloud accounting software, data visualisation dashboards, robotic process automation (RPA), blockchain applications in finance, advanced data analytics software, and AI-driven financial solutions.
Recognising the value of engaging education, we also promote experiential learning through dynamic and interactive platforms that make learning both effective and enjoyable.
“Our goal is to future-proof our graduates,” says APU School of Accounting and Finance (SoAF) head, Assoc Prof Chong Lee Lee.
“At APU, we integrate real-world technology into every layer of our programmes.
“From mastering cloud accounting to using data analytics for financial decision-making, students are equipped with the practical skills employers are actively seeking.”
This commitment to blend theory with innovation ensures that APU graduates are not only job-ready but also capable of leading digital transformation in the financial sector.
Embedded professional certifications
APU’s programmes are further enriched through strategic collaborations with globally recognised professional bodies, allowing students to gain exemptions and structured pathways towards key certifications, including:
- ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)
- CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)
- CPA Australia (Certified Practising Accountant Australia)
- ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales)
- CTIM (Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia)
These qualifications significantly enhance employability and provide access to global career opportunities.
Students also benefit from a curriculum that aligns with the content of professional exams, enabling them to prepare for certifications while completing their degree – saving both time and cost post-graduation.
Exam exemptions
APU’s Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Honours) programmes offer students up to nine exemptions out of 13 ACCA papers, covering the entire Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills levels.
These exemptions significantly reduce the time and cost required to complete the ACCA qualification.
While ACCA does not grant exemptions at the Strategic Professional Level, APU students can fast-track their progress through the ACCA Accelerate scheme.
This scheme enables early registration with ACCA and focuses learning on the higher-level papers sooner, bridging academic study with professional goals.
To support students' flexibility, classes under the Accelerate scheme are conducted online, making it easier to balance academic and career development.
The strong collaboration between APU and ACCA positions graduates with a competitive advantage, enabling them to enter the workforce earlier and be better prepared for global accountancy roles.
Real-world relevance
APU’s Accounting and Finance programmes are built upon a technology-centred academic ecosystem.
Coursework integrates real-world data, case studies and software tools, allowing students to apply their knowledge to practical financial scenarios.
Technologies such as Power BI and SQL are embedded within modules to develop skills in data interpretation, trend analysis and automated reporting.
With emerging trends in ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) reporting, cybersecurity in financial operations and RegTech (Regulatory Technology), APU ensures its graduates are equipped to navigate future challenges and capitalise on opportunities in a fast-evolving financial landscape.
Dual degree advantage
A further advantage for APU students is the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme, offered in collaboration with De Montfort University (DMU), UK.
Under this scheme, students enrolled in eligible bachelor’s degree programmes will receive two degree certificates and transcripts upon graduation – one from APU and another from DMU.
This international academic recognition significantly enhances a graduate’s global credentials and career mobility.
Shaping the future of finance
As businesses across the globe embrace digital transformation, the demand for digitally fluent, strategically-minded accountants continues to grow.
APU remains committed to nurturing this new generation of finance professionals – individuals equipped not only with technical proficiency but also with the ability to leverage technology to drive business performance and innovation.
Whether your ambition is to become a financial analyst, tax consultant, auditor or fintech advisor, APU’s programmes are designed to empower you to lead and thrive in an ever-changing industry.
